The appraisers at Accredited Appraisal Associates are ready to assist you by preparing accurate, substantiated appraisals of your personal property.

We serve as well as consultants for inventory and planning in cases for estates, bankruptcy, fire loss, fraud investigations and other uses.

Reputation

Recognized by professionals in the appraisal profession and in other fields as a highly qualified, professional and experienced appraisal firm, Accredited Appraisal Associates, Inc., is owned by a full time Accredited Senior Appraiser of the American Society of Appraisers and is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The senior appraiser and consulting appraisers are qualified to appraise a wide variety of antiques and decorative arts categories, as well as contemporary household items. And in the event of particularly unusual items, in addition to the appraisers, we have a network of consulting experts who can handle practically any specialized collection. This cooperative effort assures the client:

  • consistent appraisal approach to value, methodology and philosophy
  • advantage of having more than one expert's opinion
  • knowledge that the right appraiser will be assigned to each object
  • uniform documentation

Background

The firm of Accredited Appraisal Associates was founded in 1974 as Emyl Jenkins Appraisals by Emyl Jenkins. Since 1989 the firm has been anchored by Senior Appraiser, Janella Smyth. Ms. Smyth began as a consulting appraiser with the firm in 1979. In 1992 Ms. Smyth and her business partner, Steve Minor, purchased the firm from Ms. Jenkins and continued to operate under the trade name of Emyl Jenkins Appraisals until 1994, at which time the firm name was changed to Accredited Appraisal Associates. Since 2002 the firm has been owned and managed solely by Ms. Smyth.

Fees

The fee schedule for Accredited Appraisal Associates is based on an hourly fee for on-site examination time.

Transportation and travel expenses are billed based on distance and direct costs, and include auto, air travel, lodging, meals and other related costs. Whenever possible jobs will be booked in the same geographic area and travel costs will be shared by clients, thereby minimizing travel expenses.

Research and preparation time are charged on an hourly fee basis and fees for consultation with other experts vary based on charges from specialists.
